About this event
BIO
Greg Mix began woodworking as a boy, playing with scraps and sawdust in his father’s garage. He hasn’t stopped since. His passion for the craft influenced his decision to pursue an education in architecture and to spend most of his career in the production home building business. Now retired, he enjoys spending as much time as possible in his garage shop in Danville.
Greg is mostly self-taught and has refined his skills in Brian Condran’s Master Series Class. He builds furniture for himself and his wife, Mary, often in the Arts and Crafts style. He recently completed a birds-eye maple dining table and is currently working on a set of chairs to go with it. Both of their sons spent time playing with scraps and sawdust on Greg’s shop floor and now continue the family tradition in their own garages.
Greg’s shop is in his three-car garage and is arranged so that by rotating just one machine, he can park two cars inside in the evening. It’s set up efficiently, with major machines permanently positioned and connected to a ducted automatic dust control system. During the tour, he’ll demonstrate how the shop layout and dust control system work, display some of the projects he has completed, and discuss his chair project, currently in progress.
