John D’Amico is a retired general contractor with a lifelong passion for woodworking. His journey began at nine years old when a childhood friend’s father introduced him to his shop. Those early experiences sparked a love for the craft and led him to take woodshop classes throughout middle and high school.
In his late twenties, he purchased a Total Shop and later upgraded to a Sears Craftsman contractor’s table saw with a Biesemeyer fence, which he still uses today along with his Powermatic 2000. When John and his wife Diane moved to Alamo, in 2007, he built the shop he had always dreamed of—a space where he enjoys refining his skills and working on projects.
Over the years, John has built a variety of projects and continually expanded his knowledge. Since 2006, he has attended 32 classes at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking and Time-Honored Crafts, learning from some of the finest woodworkers in the world. He also teaches woodworking at Mount Diablo Adult Ed in Pleasant Hill, sharing his experience with new woodworkers and helping them develop safe, solid skills. This summer, he hopes to offer a box-making class.
Now, with more time to dedicate to woodworking, John enjoys every opportunity to create and improve his craft. He looks forward to sharing his shop and experiences with fellow woodworkers and to learn from others as well.
