About this event
Just a little over 30 years ago I was gifted a Craftsman Scroll Saw for a project. I was planning on building a model sailboat. When I spoke to a friend of mine, she told me her husband used a Scroll Saw to make projects for a crafts fair and introduced me to him. He gave me good advice on using the Scroll Saw, so I started making projects from a scroll saw book.
Then I started purchasing tools: belt sander, router table, table saw, planer, and Jointer. My tools are mostly portable in my woodshop.
About five years later at a San Mateo woodworking show I met the Diablo Woodworkers, and my skills increased after monthly meetings. The members were always willing to answer questions and give advice. I took some basic classes and got saw dust in my blood.
I subscribed to Poplar Woodworking and used plans from their magazine to build furniture projects. I have furnished my front room with Arts & Crafts period furniture. I have one half of a two-car garage as my work area and use portable equipment on my projects. I have been able to build large projects without a workbench.
Currently I am teaching a Scroll Saw class at Mt. Diablo Adult Education and owe much of my knowledge to the Mt Diablo classes and Diablo Woodworkers. The Club has been a valuable resource for enhancing my woodworking skills.
