A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fellow Woodworkers,

What a summer it has been! Our Summer Picnic was a tremendous success, and a big thank-you goes to Tom Meyers and his team for putting together such a great event. Good food, good friends, and—of course—a little woodworking-related gambling made for a memorable evening.  I’m talking about the raffle, of course.

Congratulations to all of our Lucky Lumber Raffle winners, and a special thank-you to the generous vendors, California Urban Lumber, Bill Ridings, Rockler and Moore-Newton, who donated the wood.  But the biggest winner of the evening, Dani and Steve Sowden, took home our beautiful Maloof-style rocker in the club raffle.  And a very big thank-you to David Lipscomb for his generosity and good sportsmanship and great leadership in organizing a successful raffle!

Stay safe, enjoy the remainder of the summer, and we'll see you in the shop!

Community Projects

A huge thank-you to Joe Hirt and his team for their continued work on our Bounty Garden Community Service Project. The team is building critter-proof cages at the Mt. Diablo Adult Education shop, and they are always looking for an extra set of hands. If you have some time, come help out. That wood doesn't mill itself!

Monthly Meetings

Our recent monthly club meetings have continued to bring us interesting speakers and fresh perspectives. Mayuresh Visswanathan shared his approach to creating beautiful objects using wood and other natural materials. Presentations like this are one of the great benefits of belonging to Diablo Woodworkers—they challenge us to think differently and perhaps try something new in our own shops.  Thank you Monir Brown for your continued assistance in getting great speakers and for hosting our monthly meetings.
Next Lumber Sale

Many members have been asking, “When is the next lumber sale?” Good news—it’s coming! Our Lumber Resource Committee is planning another sale for October, just in time for Santa’s Helpers to start thinking about those holiday projects. Members will have another opportunity to purchase quality hardwood at great prices, while helping the club put our donated lumber to good use. Stay tuned for details.
Berkeley Mills Shop Tour

We also had an outstanding May shop tour at Berkeley Mills, one of the last American custom furniture and cabinetry studios operating at this scale. Every piece leaving the studio carries the name of the craftsperson who built it—a wonderful reminder that craftsmanship still matters. With founder Gene Agress back at the helm and a refreshed brand, Berkeley Mills is entering an exciting new chapter.
