Incoming President's Message
I thank Tom Meyers and all Board members and Club members who have worked tirelessly to make our 501(c) 3 status official through the last 11/2 years. We have talked about doing this for years, and we’ve finally completed the necessary steps.
Several Board Members are not continuing into 2025. I thank them for their significant contributions to date. Two who are leaving are listed in the paragraphs below. Also leaving are our previous President, Tom Meyers, who helped start Diablo Woodworkers and who led us throughout our change to a 501(c) 3 club, and Harold Mantle, who was with the (original) Planning Committee for over 10 years. Harold had a hand in planning many of our summer and Holiday dinners.
Board Members who are remaining and will continue to perform vital roles for the Club are: Vicki Morse (Shop Tours), Bob Kemmerle (Club meetings), Jim Herrity (Photos & Newsletter), Gordon Fry (Flag Cases, classroom maintenance and more), and Alan Coyle (Membership). I thank all of them for their outstanding dedication and continued hard work.
I welcome Phil David, who will be our new Secretary, filling the shoes of David Lipscomb, who guided us through the process using his non-profit experience from his fly-fishing club. Without David’s guidance and hard work, we wouldn’t be where we are, and I thank him profusely for that. David will be assuming the role of President for the other club, which precipitated his move. He will stay on as needed to guide Phil.
I also welcome Dan Kavanaugh, who will be our new Treasurer, replacing Darin Peterson. Dan’s experience as a CPA makes him well suited to keeping track of our finances. Darin will stay on as needed to help Dan in the transition.Thank you Darin for your ideas and work as Treasurer and your participation in many of our Community Projects.
I also welcome a third new member of the Board; Gareth White, presently an at-large member, eventually to serve as a committee lead.
We’ve accomplished a lot in 2024 and I hope we can build on those accomplishments – tool sales, classroom improvements, assisting Valley View Middle School’s Woodworking instructor, Community Projects led by Joe Hirt, a very successful Craft Fair, and our monthly meetings and shop tours. Our success in becoming a 501(c) 3 club was the result of hard work, not only by the above-mentioned Board members but also many volunteers. We still need club volunteers to help in a few areas! For instance, committee members to recommend and recruit speakers (locally and not so locally) for our monthly meetings, and more items to sell at the Craft Fair.
Let’s make it another great year in 2025!
